This is a painting of my partner and fellow artist Jonathon Hornedo with his cat Storm Cloud. I took the reference photographs for this painting in the beginning of the year...and then lock down hit. During those first few months of lock down, from March until about May, I had no physical contact with Jonathon as we were both trying to be as conscientious of the pandemic as possible. Thus, I turned my attention to working on and finishing this portrait of him as a way to have him closer to me than I could in real life.

Emily Babette (b.1988) is a Canadian-born artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She graduated with her BFA from California State University, Long Beach in 2015 and is currently a first year graduate student at the University of California, Irvine. She has shown at Torrance Art Museum, Flatline Gallery, University Art Museum CSULB, Art Share LA and the Los Angles Municipal Art Gallery, among others.
